As I was preparing to leave Turlock this morning, one of the headlines on the front page of the Modesto Bee grabbed my attention:
"Hyphy fear cancels concert"
One more quote from the article that amused me:

California State University, Stanislaus, officials canceled a concert Saturday featuring Vallejo hyphy rapper E-40 and Sacramento hard-rock band Papa Roach after hearing safety concerns expressed by law enforcement.Stanislaus State officials said the event was called off because of what they said was potential violence associated with the hyphy movement. The Warriors Welcome Back Concert was scheduled for 6 p.m. at the university's amphitheater.
"Heavy concern expressed by the law enforcement officers was the key factor in the decision to cancel," said Stanislaus State President Hamid Shirvani.
Fear strikes again and prevails in Small Town, USA. And I wondered why nothing ever happened in Turlock.

when the mass public's knowledge of what "hyphy" is; is so minimal, e-40 is labelled as a 'group,' thus sortof rendering this bias and marginalization of the "movement" null. no one has a clue? atleast the author's of this article. the public's idea of this "movement" is just some dumb-downed, simplified "gangster" image; intimidating someone who doesnt know any better. especially when those ideas are spoonfed to middle class soccer moms from fox2 news.
maybe a bunch of angsty white teenagers would've rioted after papa roach's set?
